It is with a heavy heart when we say that Sara Anderson passed away on October 31st, 2016. Sara B. Anderson was one of the original founders of ACTS who served on its Board of Directors and was the agency's Emergency Assistance program director for more than thirty years. Her daily approach to serving the clients of ACTS was notable in that it combined all of the following traits: extraordinarily effective combination of professionalism and compassion; absolute adherence to non-discrimination with regard to the characteristics of the client; acceptance of the need to concentrate on being a contributor to solutions as opposed to being a definer of problems; an agent of kindness genuinely concerned about all of the myriad struggles that defined the lives of her clients and who, likewise, admired their instincts and skills of adaptability and survival. She, herself, was a person of surpassing grace and good humor who always put the needs of others ahead of her own and whose managerial philosophy epitomized an appreciation for inclusive, new and better ways to move those in need toward self sufficiency.
The Sara B. Anderson Award of Excellence was presented to Sara on October 11, 2016 by Steve Liga, CEO, in deep appreciation for her outstanding service to the greater Prince William community.
ACTS will continue to recognize Sara’s contributions annually by selecting an individual whose exceptional level of service mirrors the example set by Ms. Anderson. It is likely that no one before Sara had a greater impact on our organization for such an extended amount of time.
Services will be held on Friday, November 1st at 2:00 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1400 G Street, Woodbridge, VA 22191. A reception will follow.
