The Emergency Assistance program was established to assist families and individuals in crisis with an immediate emergency, particularly when facing the disconnection of their power or water. Our assistance is designed to be a temporary measure only. We are able to help up to 100 households per month with average assistane of $200 each. Case managers work with each client to connect them with resources that can provide more permenant help. We also offer classes in resume writing, nutrition, life skills and more to help provide tools to lift clients out of their current situations. In the last year we have assisted 9,700 households with financial assistance totaling $ 272,000. The financial assistance has been possible through the generosity of our community partners including our Faith Based partners, Dominion, NOVEC, Quickies, American Water, Columbia Gas, Salvation Army and Frances House.
Families who are experiencing other emergency crises, such as loss of a home, bed bug infestation, no money for prescription medicines, or a dire need for basic necessities are able to receive free furniture and clothes from our thrift store. We also provide a backpack give-away in August to send students off to school with the supplies they need.
