To ensure you don't have to wait in line and get the attention you deserve. Schedule your appointment now:
Please note you do not need an appointment for food assistance. For utility assistance, you may make an appointment once during June 1st-September 30th and once during October 1st-May 31st each year, and one emergency appointment at any time of the year.Other than assistance with utilities, ACTS does not offer rental, mortgage, or any other type of financial assistance for material goods, including loans. Please see our Housing Programs for further information.
If you are having trouble making ends meet, you may feel forced to choose between food and rent. While we can't help with rent, we do have an extensive food pantry. You and your children will receive up to a week's worth of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meat, bread and other staples, and even a birthday cake if you need one. We know many people have dietary restrictions, so we strive to accommodate your needs as much as possible by providing sugar free, gluten free, and low salt items when requested. We always have some specialty items to choose from, too.
If you arrive for food assistance within the last 10 minutes of the posted time that we are open, you will be given emergency food only at that time. You are welcome to come back the next time that we are open to receive your full food package, pending eligibility. Please plan accordingly.
Over the summer, we also usually have tables set up with fresh vegetables donated by local farmers' markets that are free for the taking.
If you live in eastern Prince William County (zip codes 22191, 22192, 22193, 22025, 22026, 22172, 22134), we may be able to help you avoid having your utilities cut off. Depending upon available funding, ACTS can often help if you have received a disconnect notice for your electric, gas, oil, propane, water or sewer services. Since this is truly emergency assistance, we can only assist if you are currently in disconnect status, and we do not provide assistance for phone bills or gasoline vouchers.
We work with the following utility companies:
- Dominion Virginia Power (DVP)
- Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative. (NOVEC)
- Prince William County Service Authority (PWCSA)
- Virginia American Water
- Dale City Sewer
- Columbia Gas
- Washington Gas
- Leonard Splaine
If you do not live in one of the zip codes above, please call 2-1-1 to inquire about emergency assistance in your zip code area.
Even though the Affordable Care Act provided millions of people with insurance coverage for prescription medications, not everyone qualified. Based on available funding, we can provide limited prescription assistance if you have no insurance.
Propane Assistance is for our unsheltered (homeless) clients who use propane to cook. We work with Quickee Tire and Gas located in Triangle to fill 10 pound, grill-size tanks. If you are aware of someone who needs this type of assistance, please direct them to us.
