ACTS Transitional Living is a service enriched housing
program which offers 24 months of intensive case management, development
of life skills through education, training and advocacy, support system
building and community referrals. The program serves homeless families
and homeless women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
One aim of the program is to stabilize families by providing housing
and using intensive case management techniques that encourage
self-empowerment and self motivation.
Eligibility
To be eligible for entrance into the program you must:
- Currently reside in a Prince William County Area Shelter
- Have received an eviction notice from a Prince William County
Landlord
- Be fleeing from domestic abuse
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have legal custody of a child or children under age 18
- Currently employed or ability to become gainfully employed for 30 days
- Ability to pay program fees
- Motivated to alleviate homeless situation and follow through on goals
Program Services
Program services are provided to adult and children clients as a way
to address issues surrounding their homelessness. The services also
focus on alleviating or minimizing the effects of homelessness and
reducing the chances of future episodes of homelessness.
Case Management
Each family meets with a family case manager or children’s services
coordinator on a weekly basis to establish short term and long term
goals.
Life Skills Training
Weekly life skills training sessions are held in order to increase
client’s knowledge and awareness in the following topic areas:
Financial Management, Job Skills Readiness, Parenting, Health and
Nutrition, Stress Management, Healthy Relationships and Boundaries,
Goal Setting and Time Management. The classes are taught by staff
as well as professional community volunteers. The children also participate
in play groups and life skills classes.
